The 2012-13 School year has ended. It was a good year, I had a great time teaching and working with my students to create a safe, comfortable learning environment. Watching and documenting my students learning and growing is always a pleasure. But I'd like to give them even more credit with becoming stronger, more independent learners. When I had to be gone, I would set them up for a project to complete, and they would use the time effectively. The substitutes would always comment positively on their working habits, which I would always share and praise them for. I really do love teaching.
As much as I love teaching, I have made the decision, with encouragement and support from George, to teach half time next year. As scary financially as this will be, I feel that it is time for me to try something new. My responsibilities as President of the Oregon Science Teachers Association have opened up some new doors that I would like to explore. I have two events to manage that will provide some quality professional development opportunities for my colleagues as well as giving me some new skills.
Talk about out of my comfort zone...I am excited at the possibilities, but scared at the same time.
Wish me luck.
